Last year, Marjorie Taylor Greene, a GOP Rep. from Georgia, spoke at a white nationalist event organized by Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes. This caused Republican leaders to denounce her.

Last week, Greene’s Twitter account was temporarily suspended by the Elon Musk-headed platform over a tweet with a graphic referring to a “Trans Day of Vengeance,” as she denounced a planned transgender rights rally.

And now, on Tuesday, Greene has announced plans to protest in New York City when former President Donald Trump is expected to be arraigned on an indictment of more than 30 counts, calling the proceedings against him an “unconstitutional WITCH HUNT!”

But it’s worth mentioning that on Sunday, Greene was featured on CBS’ “60 Minutes” in an interview that showcased her opinions and intensity. The show labeled her as MTG, and she sat down with Lesley Stahl. The images shared on Twitter by “60 Minutes” included Greene and Stahl walking through the US Capitol, taking a stroll outside, and Greene showing something on her phone to Stahl.

During the segment that aired on Sunday night, Stahl acknowledged that Greene has moved from the fringe to the front row of the GOP in just two years, despite her sharp tongue and some radical views. Stahl also mentioned Greene’s over-the-top comments about the Democrats being a party of pedophiles and referred to video footage of Greene chasing a Parkland school shooting survivor. However, Stahl did not address Greene speaking at a white nationalist event or her extreme anti-Muslim views and defense of the January 6 rioters.

Criticism of CBS for featuring Greene on the show began even before it aired. Former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger tweeted, “Wow. Insane that 60 minutes would do this.” Journalist Molly Jong-Fast also criticized the show for giving attention to Greene, referring to her as the “Jewish space lasers woman.” David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland shooting, expressed his anticipation for questions about Greene’s belief that school shootings are fake and her support of QAnon.

It’s true that “60 Minutes” has a history of featuring controversial guests, including interviews with Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber, and Iran’s Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Perhaps the show views Greene as another controversial figure. However, it’s important to note that during Trump’s presidential campaign, the then-CBS CEO Les Moonves admitted that Trump’s candidacy was “damn good for CBS” due to the money it brought in. This mindset may still persist at “60 Minutes.”
