Last year, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia made headlines when she spoke at a white nationalist event organized by a Holocaust denier. This led to Republican leaders denouncing her. Just last week, Greene’s Twitter account was temporarily suspended for a tweet that referred to a “Trans Day of Vengeance” where she denounced a planned transgender rights rally. However, the interview failed to mention Greene’s past speaking engagement at a white nationalist event or her extreme anti-Muslim views. Critics have called out CBS for amplifying Greene, with former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger stating it was “insane” for “60 Minutes” to give her a platform.
While “60 Minutes” has a history of featuring controversial guests, the choice to feature Greene as a guest raises questions about the show’s intentions. It’s reminiscent of comments made by former CBS CEO Les Moonves during Trump’s presidential campaign, where he admitted that Trump’s candidacy was good for CBS in terms of ratings and revenue.
