In recent news, the astronauts who will embark on the first crewed moon mission in five decades have been revealed. NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency, are set to begin training for the historic Artemis II lunar flyby scheduled for November 2024.

Reid Wiseman, a decorated naval aviator and test pilot, will serve as the commander of the Artemis II mission. Having completed a 165-day trip to the International Space Station in 2014, Wiseman brings valuable experience to the crew. Victor Glover, a naval aviator and pilot of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft, is another member of the team. Glover’s previous spaceflight in 2021 and his extensive military background make him an essential asset for the mission.

Christina Koch, a veteran of six spacewalks and the record holder for the longest single spaceflight by a woman, adds her expertise as an electrical engineer and developer of scientific instruments. Finally, Jeremy Hansen, the first Canadian astronaut to travel to deep space, completes the quartet, bringing his training and experience as a fighter pilot to the mission.

The Artemis II mission aims to build on the success of the uncrewed Artemis I test mission, which concluded in December. This upcoming mission, expected to last approximately 10 days, will take the crew beyond the moon and potentially break records for human travel distance.
